Mandarin Hotel Left Lobby

Design Statement:

The purpose of the design is to modify the look and feel of the south wing lift lobby on the ground floor of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to reflect the identity of the Tasca Bar & Restaurant (Tasca). The design solution suggests the enhancement of the existing surfaces with minimum construction impact in order to prevent nuisance to the guests of Tasca.

Wooden wall panels in modern configurations, simulating azulejos, are backlit with amber light casting a chimeric effect to the space. A traditional Portuguese window with grey sheers serves as a focal point in the lobby and pronounces a metallic console that is set to serve welcome drinks to the visitors of Tasca. The center wall between the two elevators is treated with black bricks and enunciates the Tasca branded signboard. The existing glass ceiling is complemented with class feathers falling from the migrating birds of the Portuguese skies.
